Monongah Mine
03:26
|
|||
It was 1907 when the coal came in
We'd bring 'em back our share and then we'd dive back in
With pockets empty we'd walk through the door
With interest accruing at the general store
Get up next morning and do it again
our life held in the balance by the greediest of men
In Monongah the bodies lie there in the cave
Filled to the brim with the young and the brave
The methane was thick and ignited the dust
We trusted in those that you never should trust
A pick in our hand and a knife in our back
We entered the cave and we never came back
West Virginia, yeah we thought it would be
The place to establish our own family
We entered the mine with the largest of dreams and all that came out was the sound of our screams
Our widows lay dying while bosses made plans
to wipe off the blood that they had on their hands
No laws against working the young and the frail
No laws against knowing the system would fail
the sight of our graves at the hillside at dawn
started the plan for reform to be drawn
500 lives for a plan to unfold
for a chance for a miner to finally grow old

The One
04:36
|
|||
Even though I know that you are so far away from me
I don't question our love
It sometimes seems
As if you're the one that makes me believe in Love
Maybe you could be the one
But the more time that slips away
The more times I hear my heart say
You're the one for me
Maybe you could be the one
Even so,
how could I trust in those words that you say to me
Should I cast out all my doubt and embrace my dreams
'Cause you're still the one who makes me believe in love
Maybe you could be the one

The Blame
04:55
|
|||
When you walked right through the door
I knew I needed more
Of whatever you had
Your dented cheeks
were in my mind for weeks
and my thoughts were bad
but before I knew your name
I knew I'd bear the blame
for all the things I'd do to you
With a Longhorn on your shirt
and my long hair full of dirt
I had my doubts
but when I saw your eyes
look staright into mine
there's no way I'd live without
But before I knew your name
I knew I'd bear the blame
for all the things I'd do to you
but I know you wanted me to...
Oh you know it's true

Pilate's Plight
03:43
|
|||
In a time when I ruled over men
I ruled on their lives and washed my hands of them
My destiny was set before I was born
forever connected with a crown of thorns
But I see no fault
yet I must appease these men
I'll send him to Herod to take care of him
Oh No, why must he return
for me to seal his fate
and why must I be the high magistrate
My wife woke up screaming with the sound of fear
I tell her I've told them
but they did not hear
Barabas I offered and they still said no
His fate is sealed and mine is also

Mobile as a Tree
07:03
|
|||
There was a time it seemed
of futures filled with dreams
A time of endless possibility
No need to even try
Satisfied to abide
No fear that life could pass you by
The future's in your face
maybe you should replace
Those against you in your final case
To prove you who you now are
and ascend to the wish
That I know you placed on a star
Some say complacency
As mobile as a tree
but you're not where you thought you'd be
A crossroad stares you down
in your makeshift town
but oh, may your choice resound
the echoes found in you
may your heart be true
and remove those who obstruct your view
when adding up the sum
You'll know that you have come
out of nothing into someone
Life often is a test
of who knows best
when the moment comes
when you're leaving from
places that you've known
seeds that you have sown
time to find out now
if you've really grown
into something more
than you were before
though it isn't safe
take a leap of faith
